The EVHFG610-45-MP9989A-00A evaluation board is designed to demonstrate the capabilities of the HFG610-45 and the MP9989A. It comes in a small form factor with a high power density, and the evaluation board’s electrical specifications are well-suited for cellphone and computer power adapters. The evaluation board provides very low no-load power consumption (<30mW), and its high overall efficiency meets DOE Level VI and CoC Tier 2 standards.
The HFG610-45 is a highly integrated, quasi-resonant (QR) flyback controller co-packed with GaN HEMT, enabling high-performance and high-frequency designs. Unlike conventional QR flyback regulators, the HFG610-45’s frequency foldback guarantees high efficiency across the entire load range.
The HFG610-45 is a secondary-side regulation (SSR) based primary regulator, and must work with secondary-side feedback circuitry. The higher frequency shrinks the passive component size to achieve higher power density. The HFG610-45 integrates a high-voltage start-up circuit and an X-capacitor discharger circuit, as well as ultra-low quiescent current (IQ) during burst mode. The no-load power consumption can be less than 30mW.
The MP9989A is a fast turn-off intelligent rectifier for flyback converters that integrates a 100V/10mΩ MOSFET. It can replace a diode rectifier for higher efficiency and power density. The chip regulates the internal power MOSFET’s forward voltage drop (VFWD) to 40mV and turns off before the drain-to-source voltage (VDS) reverses. The MP9989A can generate its own supply voltage without the need for auxiliary winding, making it well-suited for charger applications with a low output voltage (VOUT) requirement, as well as any other adapter applications with a high-side set-up. Internal ringing detection circuitry prevents the MP9989A from falsely turning on during discontinuous conduction mode (DCM) or quasi-resonant (QR) operation.
The EVHFG610-45-MP9989A-00A evaluation board provides a reference design for a universal, offline, isolated power supply with a 20V/2.25A, 15V/3A, 12V/3A, 9V/3A, or 5V/3A output. The datasheet contains the complete specifications for the power supply, a detailed circuit diagram, the entire bill of materials required to build the power supply, a drawing of the transformers, and performance testing data.
