The EVQ2793-0000/0002-FP-00A is an evaluation board designed to demonstrate the capabilities of the MPQ2793, a robust battery management device. The MPQ2793 provides a complete solution that can monitor the analog front-end (AFE) and provide protection. It is designed for battery systems with 4 cells to 16 cells in series. The MPQ2793DFP-0000 supports I2C communication. The MPQ2793DFP-0002 supports serial peripheral interface (SPI) communication.
The MPQ2793 supports connections for 4-cell to 16-cell series battery packs, with an absolute voltage exceeding 80V on particular pins.
The MPQ2793 integrates two separate analog-to-digital converters (ADCs). The first ADC measures each channel’s differential cell voltage (up to 16 channels), die temperature, and four channel temperatures via the external negative temperature coefficient (NTC) thermistors. The second ADC measures the charge current (ICHG) and discharge current (IDSG) via an external current-sense (CS) resistor (RCS). The dual-ADC architecture enables synchronous voltage and current measurements for cell and pack impedance monitoring.
The MPQ2793 includes high-side MOSFET (HS-FET) drivers for independent charge (CHG) and discharge (DSG) control.
The DSG MOSFET driver includes a configurable soft-start (SS) function that provides a controlled turn-on, eliminating the need for an external pre-charge circuit. The DSG MOSFET driver also incorporates protections such as discharge over-current protection (DOCP), short-circuit protection (SCP), battery under-voltage protection (UVP), over-temperature protection (OTP), and under-temperature protection (UTP). The CHG MOSFET drivers incorporate protections such as charging over-current protection (COCP), SCP, battery over-voltage protection (OVP), OTP, and UTP. All of these protections have configurable thresholds.
Internal passive-balancing MOSFETs can be used to equalize mismatched cells, supporting up to 58mA. The MPQ2793 provides the option to drive external balancing transistors (BJTs).
The MPQ2793 has an optimized baseline current consumption that depends on the operating mode. It is available in a TQFP-48 (7mmx7mm) package, and is available in AEC-Q100 Grade 1.
