The EV4895A-BD-03A is an evaluation board designed for the MP4895A, a high-voltage, 96-channel analog switch. The MP4895A is designed for medical ultrasound applications. It can also be used for non-destructive tests (NDTs), as this application is very similar to medical ultrasound.
The high-voltage, analog switches are used to multiplex the transmitter and receiver circuitries to different piezoelectric transducers (PZT) elements. The 96 switches are configured as a 32 1:3 multiplexer and demultiplexer.
There are 32 switch inputs. Each switch input is connected to three switch outputs (SWOUTA, SWOUTB, and SWOUTC) for a total of 96 switch outputs. All switch outputs have integrated bleed resistors connected to ground. This ensures that a significant DC voltage does not build up across the PZT element. The switches can be turned on/off via a serial, 96-bit shift register. The serial control interface minimizes the number of input/output (I/O) connections.
The EV4895A-BD-03A has two discrete, high-voltage transmitters (TX1 and TX2) that are connected to the MP4895A’s input (SWIN) to help evaluate the MP4895A’s performance.
The EV4895A-BD-03A is designed to work with MPS’s ultrasound controller board (EV-EVKRD-01A). A graphical user interface (GUI) is provided to easily control the analog switch states, transmitters (TX1 and TX2), pulse widths, and pulse cycles.
