The MP3710 is a robust battery pack protection standalone solution. It supports connections for 3-cell to 18-cell series battery packs, with an absolute voltage exceeding 80V on particular pins.

The MP3710 includes a high-side MOSFET (HS-FET) driver. The discharge (DSG) MOSFET driver includes a configurable, scaled current soft start (SS) that provides a controlled turn-on, eliminating the need for an external pre-charge circuit. The MOSFET driver also incorporates over-current protection (OCP), short-circuit protection (SCP), battery under-voltage protection (UVP), battery over-voltage protection (OVP), cell over-temperature protection (OTP), and cell under-temperature protection (UTP). All these protection thresholds can be configured via non-volatile memory (NVM) configuration.

The MP3710 integrates the fuse driver for severe under-voltage protection (SUVP), severe over-voltage protection (SOVP), MOSFET damage protection, and abundant self-diagnostics protection. The FUSE pin can be considered as the permanent fault indication.

The MP3710 integrates GPIO indication for multiple combinations of the protection states. GPIO1 can be configured to indicate cell UVP or charging protection. GPIO2 can be configured to indicate cell OVP and open-wire or discharging protection. GPIO3 can be configured to indicate all protections.

Internal passive balancing MOSFETs can be used to equalize mismatched cells, supporting up to 58mA. There is also the option to drive external balancing transistors (MOSFET or BJT).

For applications requiring compliance with IPC 2221B or UL 60950-1, conformal coating may be required depending on the battery pack voltage.

The MP3710 is available in a TQFP-48 (7mmx7mm) package.

The MP2798 is a robust battery management device providing a complete analog front-end (AFE) monitoring and protection solution. The device can support I²C or serial peripheral interface (SPI) communication. It supports connections for 3-cell to 18-cell series battery packs, with an absolute voltage exceeding 80V on particular pins.

The MP2798 integrates two separate analog-to-digital converters (ADCs). The first ADC measures each channel’s differential cell voltages (up to 18 channels), die temperature, and 7-channel temperatures via external negative temperature coefficient (NTC) thermistors. The second ADC measures the charge/discharge current via an external current-sense resistor. The dual ADC architecture enables synchronous voltage and current measurements for cell and pack impedance monitoring.

When paired with an MPF4279x fuel gauge, the MP2798 can achieve state-of-charge (SOC) accuracy within 2%.

The MP2798 provides robust hardware monitoring alarm functions, such as over-current (OC), short-circuit, battery under-voltage (UV), battery over-voltage (OV), over-temperature (OT), and under-temperature (UT) alarms. All these alarms have configurable thresholds.
