The MP2718A is a highly integrated, 2.5A, switch-mode battery management device for single-cell Li-ion or Li-polymer batteries. The device employs a low-impedance, narrow-voltage DC (NVDC) power path management structure, which optimizes charging efficiency, reduces battery charging time, and extends battery life. The battery leakage current in shipping mode is as low as 1μA, which can also extend the device's shelf life.
The MP2718A supports down to a 10mA termination current (ITERM), which makes it an excellent candidate for low-capacity battery applications.
The MP2718A supports USB On-the-Go (OTG) mode to supply a 5V output from the battery. The IN or PMID pin can be set as the OTG output terminal. If IN is set as the boost output, then the block FET turns on in OTG mode. If PMID is set as the boost output terminal, then the block FET stays off in OTG mode. The device also offers a PMID_OUT driver to drive an external N-channel MOSFET to disconnect the PMID output from the external loads if any protection occurs.
With an I2C interface, the MP2718A offers complete operating control of the charge and discharge parameters, such as the input current limit (IIN_LIM), input voltage limit (VIN_LIM), charge current, battery-full regulation voltage, output voltage (VOUT), and output current (IOUT) in boost mode. It can also provide status/interrupt monitoring via the I2C interface.
To guarantee safe operation, the device provides various safety features for battery charging and system operations, including input over-voltage protection (OVP), battery OVP, system OVP, thermal shutdown, a charging safety timer, and a fully customizable JEITA profile with configurable temperature windows and actions.
The MP2718A is available in a QFN-20 (3mmx3mm) package.
