The MPQ5823A-AEC1 is a high-efficiency voltage limiter applied between the battery and the load. When the input voltage (VIN) is below the target output voltage (VOUT), the device works in bypass mode with low dropout. When VIN exceeds 110% of the target VOUT, the device works as a buck controller. It regulates VOUT to provide a protected voltage rail.
The wide 4.5V to 36V VIN range makes the device well-suited for multi-purpose automotive and industrial applications, and the VBIAS pin allows the device to operate from a 3.8V cold-crank supply if a regulated 5V supply is available.
The MPQ5823A-AEC1 uses a pulse-width modulation (PWM) current-control architecture with accurate cycle-by-cycle current limiting, and it can drive dual N-channel MOSFETs. Advanced asynchronous modulation (AAM) mode enables nonsynchronous operation to optimize light-load efficiency in buck mode.
The switching frequency (fSW) in buck mode is configurable from 200kHz to 2.2MHz via a resistor. In buck mode, an open-drain power good (PG) signal indicates whether the output is within 106% of its nominal voltage, and the bypass mode indicator (BPMI) indicates whether the part is working in bypass mode.
Full protection features include precision output over-voltage protection (OVP), output over-current protection (OCP), and thermal shutdown.
The MPQ5823A-AEC1 is available in a QFN-24 (4mmx4mm) package. It is available in AEC-Q100 Grade 1.
