The MPQ76200FS-AEC1 is an ASIL-B, hardware-capable infrared (IR) LED driver with integrated sophisticated eye safety features for automotive driver monitoring systems (DMS) and occupant monitoring systems (OMS).

A constant-voltage (CV) asynchronous boost regulator is combined with a constant-current (CC) synchronous buck regulator that can deliver up to 6A of peak output current (I_OUT) to drive a string of IR LEDs. The continuous conduction mode (CCM) boost and its ability to simultaneously switch with the buck regulator delivers the maximum amount of power and minimizes the tank capacitor required, allowing for a compact system design. The two-stage design, with up to a 32V output on the boost stage followed by the CC buck stage, allows for a string of multiple LEDs in series.

A fixed-frequency band-band control loop is used on the buck stage, and a fixed-frequency peak current mode is used on the boost stage. The MPQ76200FS-AEC1 can support a pulse-width modulation (PWM) dimming frequency from 10Hz to 2kHz and is compatible with 30FPS, 60FPS, and 120FPS frame rates for IR applications.

Configurable protection features via an I²C digital interface include dimming on-time limit, dimming frame limit, LED short-to-GND and short-to-battery protection, LED open protection, over-current protection (OCP), over-voltage protection (OVP), and thermal warning/shutdown (TSD). Fault and diagnostic data can be read, and an open-drain failsafe (/FS) pin asserts low during these conditions.

The MPQ76200FS-AEC1 is ISO 26262, ASIL-B hardware-capable rated. Built-in self-test (BIST) is implemented to perform self-diagnostic on critical analog and logic functions. It is developed under MPS's advanced MPSafe^TM functional safety product development process, which has been independently certified to meet ISO 26262 guidelines.

The MPQ76200FS-AEC1 requires a minimal number of standard external components and is available in a small TQFN-19 (3mmx4mm) wettable flank package. It is available in AEC-Q100 Grade 1.
